Permanent Make Up FAQs
questions and answers
What is permanent make-up?
An exciting procedure is used in which color pigments are placed into the dermal layer of the skin using a very fine probe. The color can last from 1 - 5 years and is a convenient alternative to daily application of makeup. The pigment is made of earth's finest ingredients of inert organic and inorganic compounds formulated to be hypo-allergenic and fade resistant.

What type of procedures offered?
Eyeliner —
A fine, soft natural line can be created to add depth and definition to your eyes. Your lashes will appear to be thicker.  Color and thickness can be individualized and make-up can be applied for a more dramatic evening look.
Eyebrow Enhancement —
Eyebrows are the frame for your eyes and face and, when designed properly, lift the eyes to give a more youthful appearance, make cheekbones appear more prominent, and influence how the nose is perceived. Women whose eyebrows are sparse, light in color, have non-existent eyebrows, can now enjoy the luxury of permanent eyebrows.
Lip Color -
Lip-liner and full lipstick color is perfect for reshaping uneven lips and for making lips appear larger and fuller. Permanent Cosmetics has the added benefit of preventing lipstick from bleeding, covering scars, giving your lips a natural or more dramatic blend of color enhancement, lasting all day, every day.

Does it look natural?
Very natural - your features look more defined. Your friends would never know what the difference was in you unless you told them.

How would I know which color to choose?
Beginning with a variety of basic pigment shades, virtually any color can be mixed to compliment your natural skin tones.

What if styles change?
As permanent make-up professional, I never do anything that is too trendy. We use colors that are custom blended to compliment your skin tone, eye and hair color to give a soft natural appearance. However, the colors can be changed by blending another color over the original, if you wish.

How long will it last?
This varies with each individual person, though the usual duration is between 1 - 5 years. Imagine how wonderful it would be to wake up each morning with two matching eyebrows, or to go swimming and know that your eyeliner and lip color is still intact when you emerge from the water. You can look wonderful 24 hours a day!

How long does it take to heal?
Between four and seven days, depending on the procedure that you have done.

What is the healing period like?
On the second day after a procedure, a light crust will form. After this crust flakes off it is common for the color to lighten 10 - 50%.

How long will the procedure take?
After your consultation visit a 2 to 3 hour appointment will be scheduled for your visit (first procedure). This will be followed by a focus visit to finish the details. All procedures are scheduled 2-3 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the color to stabilize.

Will I need to take off work?
No.  There is minimum swelling and redness. Ice is used to reduce swelling and an ointment may be used for several days.

What will the procedure feel like?
Some patients say it feels like plucking their eyebrows. Others say it feels like slight scratching, vibration, or deep pressure. Some clients feel absolutely nothing except a prickly or tickling sensation I use anesthetics to greatly reduce discomfort and promote relaxation.. The area may feel chapped or sunburned for a few days.

Will there be any swelling?
There may be a small amount of redness and swelling around the treated area. This will be gone in 6 – 12hours after a brow procedure,    and 24 - 48 hours after eyeliner and lip color. Benadryl, a non-prescription antihistamine allergy medicine, will help reduce the swelling. This is recommended, especially for eyeliner and lip color applications.

Will it fade?
A color stabilization period occurs during the first two weeks. In 3 - 7 days, the epidermal (outer) layer of skin will gradually peel or flake off as the new layer regenerates. Allow for a 10% - 50% fade during this time. Over time the color will soften.

What about sterilization?
Only sterile disposable probes are used. All other equipment is either discarded after use

What if I need an MRI?
By all means get the needed MRI. Temporary tingling, redness and swelling have been reported for women with eyeliners. Advise your physician to place a wet cotton over your eyes during the MRI or take a non-prescription strengthantihistamine such as Benadryl
